A bank routing number is a 9-digit number, printed at the bottom of your checks, which accompanies your personal bank account number to identify the financial institution associated with youraccount.
What is a bank routing number usedfor?
You’ll need to know your bank routing number to set up direct deposit payments, pay bills online, make wire transfers, or to set up certain third-party, recurring withdrawals from your bankaccount.
How do I find the routing number on mycheck?
There are two numbers printed at the bottom of eachcheck:
- The first 9-digit number is your bank routingnumber.
- The second, 10- or 11-digit number is your bank accountnumber.
Does the routing numberchange?
The bank routing number is connected to the financial institution and remains the same on all of your checks. The only number that changes is the check number, whichis:
- Printed in the top right-hand corner of thecheck.
- After the account number at the bottom of thecheck.
- Check numbers are sequential and can be used for reference and to track the number of checks you have used from your currentbook.
